GROUP BIOGRAPHY

Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar has truly become America's Mariachi! First: multi-styling videos with pop sensation Camila Cabello! Second, a viral "Jacket Exchange" with Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Joe Kelly, who proudly wore it to the White House to meet Joe Biden! With a 30-year history of shows that delight audiences at both intimate venues and major theaters throughout the U.S. and Mexico, the ensemble tours its own show, Leyendas de Mexico/Legends of Mexico, while also collaborating with a Who’s Who of Mexican artists including Aida Cuevas, Pedro Fernandez, Ana Barbara and Angela Aguilar. Most recently Mariachi Garibaldi were featured performers for Camila Cabello’s Tiny Desk concert performing “La Buena Vida,” truly displaying that mariachi music transcends across all platforms. Including a production in 2017 of “Tale as Old as Time” from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast for the “mitú” network, went viral with over 16 million views! MUSICAL DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY

Originally from Bakersfield, California, Jimmy Cuellar began his mariachi career as a teenager alongside his father Jaime Cuellar and was a founding member of Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuellar. His dedication to his musical craft drove “El Pollo” to fine-tune his skills on the violin, guitarron, vihuela, guitar and guitarra de golpe, securing him a ten-year tenure with Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano. In subsequent years, Jimmy accompanied well known Latin recording artists Yolanda del Rio, Mercedes Castro, Humberto Herrera, Lila Downs, Vikki Carr, Aida Cuevas, Eugenia Leon, and Jose Feliciano as well as has been an instrumental member in various recoding productions, including the 2010 release of Ry Cooder and The Chieftains, San Patricio.

Beginning In 2005, Jimmy saw Grammy success when he was a featured artist on the Grammy Award winning album cELLAbration: A Tribute to Ella Jenkins. The following year “Llegaron Los Camperos: Concert Favorites of Nati Cano’s Mariachi Los Camperos” received a Grammy nomination for “Best Mexican Album”. 2008 added to his Grammy success with “Cien Por Ciento Mexicano” by Pepe Aguilar with 2009 rounding out a Grammy award to add to his mantle for Best Regional Mexican Album with “Amor, Dolor, y Lagrimas”.

Composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, three-time Grammy Award nominated and three time Grammy Award Winner, Mr. Cuellar understands the importance of education. Having received his Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach’s Bob Cole Conservatory of Music in 2009, “El Pollo” decided to continue his musical education and enroll with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he is pursuing a Masters in Music Composition. His talents as an educator as well as nationally-regarded expert in the genre have earned Jimmy a yearly seat as an adjudicator for the statewide Mariachi Competition held in Texas. Mr. Cuéllar is the director of the mariachi program at Redlands Univesity and the director of the new school CUE Music, in Montebello, CA, where he teaches classes on mariachi and other genres of Mexican music.

Originalmente de Bakersfield, California, Jimmy Cuéllar empezó su carrera de mariachi como adolescente al lado de su padre, Jaime Cuéllar y fue miembro fundador del Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar. Su dedicación a su arte musical llevo a “El Pollo” a afinar sus habilidades en el violín, guitarrón, vihuela, guitarra y guitarra de golpe, asegurándole una permanencia de diez años con el Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano. En los años subsiguientes, Jimmy acompaño a artistas de grabación latinos muy conocidos, Yolanda del Rio, Mercedes Castro, Humberto Herrera, Lila Downs, Vikki Carr, Aida Cuevas, Eugeina Leon, y Jose Feliciano y también ha sido un miembro instrumental en varias producciones de grabación, incluyendo el lanzamiento de Ry Cooder y Los Chieftains, San Patricio,

en el 2010.
 

Empezando en el 2005, Jimmy logro un éxito del Grammy cuando fue el artista destacado en el álbum, ganador de Grammy, “cELLAbration: A Tribute to Ella Jenkins.” El siguiente año “Llegaron Los Camperos: Concert Favorites of Nati Cano’s Mariachi Los Camperos” recibió una nominación de Grammy para el mejor álbum mexicano. Compositor, arreglista, e instrumentista, tres veces nominado y tres veces ganador de un premio Grammy, el Sr. Cuéllar entiende la importancia de la educación. Habiendo recibido su Licenciatura en Bellas Artes del Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, en California State University, Long Beach, en el 2009, “El Pollo” decidió continuar su educación musical y se matriculo en la Universidad de Nevada, en Las Vegas donde está llevando a cabo una Maestría de Música en Composición. Sus talentos como un educador, además de su reconocimiento nacional como un experto en el género, le ha ganado a Jimmy un asiento de juez en la competencia anual del mariachi en Texas. 

 

El Sr. Cuéllar es el director del programa de mariachi en la Universidad de Redlands, en Redlands, CA, y tambien es el director de la nueva escuela CUE Music, en Montebello, CA, donde enseña classes de mariachi y otros géneros de música Mexicana.
