I’m Marian Liebowitz and I thank you for your interest in the MLAM roster of spectacular ensembles! The vision for my agency has been a long time coming. In truth, it started while I was still in my 35-year career as both an international clarinet soloist and a tenured professor at San Diego State University. That’s where the roots of my multi-cultural, multi-discipline tastes came together. From day one, it has been of key importance that my artists be able to perform before a wide variety of audiences in the broadest definition of situations.  All MLAM artists follow my professional standards. I hope you will enjoy this carefully curated roster of the best ensembles in world music and dance, jazz, and classical. Arts for all: MLAM is available to bring concerts to venues and events worldwide.

More about Marian:

Marian Liebowitz is an acclaimed musician, professor, consultant, and executive director with international credentials.  As a professional classical clarinetist, she appeared on stages the world over. Winner of the U.S. State Department/Kennedy Center 1997 Artistic Ambassador Competition, she was one of a small number of wind soloists ever to be selected for the California Arts Council Touring Artists Roster. “Initially, I booked concerts for myself. Then, I realized that not everybody could do what I could do. That’s when I realized that I could be of service. I transitioned into management after a life on the road and 20 years of artist management through San Diego State University. I mentor. I look at the bigger picture, at more than just where do we get our next gig?”

Marian has served as a booking agent since 1992, when she founded the San Diego State University Adams’ Project Performers Network. The Adams’ Project was a booking agency for emerging student, alumni, and faculty performers. Under these auspices, the best SDSU musicians were booked at well over 150 events per year nationwide. After retiring as a clarinetist, Marian founded her own professional booking agency and Marian Liebowitz Artist Management (MLAM) has flourished ever since.

“I work for my artists from my own history as a performer. I know how to make a tour happen.  I know what it is like to be on a different stage every night in a different city. I understand the industry from both sides of the theater. I know what’s involved. Artists have wanted me as their agent because I am their biggest fan. I’m tenacious, I’m driven, and I believe in my artists with my whole heart.”

A pioneer in the instruction of community outreach techniques for performers, she launched Heartpower Performances in 2009 with the express purpose of sending musicians into venues with at-risk audiences such juvenile offenders, disabled veterans, hospitalized patients, and any population that can’t normally attend public concerts. When considering new groups for the MLAM roster, Marian looks for this value system. All MLAM groups offer engaging outreach shows for all populations.

“Entrepreneurial mentorship helps foster successful professionals in the arts.” This is the philosophy that guides Dr. Marian Liebowitz both as a booking agent and as a Professor Emeritus of Music at San Diego State University. Her clients and students alike have reaped the benefit of Marian’s dual career track, first as a globe-trotting classically trained concert clarinetist, then later as a college instructor. She has helped hundreds of students and professionals to strategize their best career moves. She is a valued organizational consultant with many accolades to her credit.

Marian is a past recipient of the California State University Bautzer Faculty Award for excellence in fundraising, a skill she now uses to advise her organizational clients. She is also a successful grant writer, having secured funds from such notable organizations as the National Endowment for the Arts, the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Trust, and the California Arts Council.

Marian is also available for consultation, lectures and workshops.
