Outreach/Residencies

"I enjoy working with Marian and Aaron and her artists at MLAM because of their great problem-solving skills, clear communication, and that they always seek to understand and work collaboratively.

Every time I’ve coordinated a residency with one of her artists, I can tell Marian is both listening to the unique needs of us here at Quad City Arts as a presenter and nonprofit as well as looking out for the best interests of her artists. Given how we run our program, it’s refreshing to work with an agency that both understands our mission so well and has artists that are so passionate about presenting work to audiences in a way that furthers our mission. I can count on MLAM to provide excellent, accessible materials before the visit and well-prepared artists who thoughtfully engage in EVERY venue, with EVERY audience we schedule. I appreciate all of their efforts, from my first question about an artist in residence to the last note played at an engagement!"

MLAM artists bring concerts and participatory classes to all educational institutions and to at-risk populations such as disabled veterans, juvenile offenders, and hospitalized patients. We specialize in residencies.

Our artists are selected through a multi-tiered process. The first criteria is artistic excellence. Second is an interest in serving all populations and the ability to connect through ethnicity, background, or artistic genre. All our artists are acclaimed and active teachers as well as performers. We have programs specific to each grade level and connected to California Teaching Standards.

"Mariachi Garibaldi de Jamie Cuellar with Folklorico Dancers presented several in-school residencies.

The school audiences consisted of children from kindergarten through high school. Not only did the performances bring a new musical experience to many of the students, it also created a moment of great pride in the students of Mexican descent. The well-crafted show provided a really positive moment for those students who are so often maligned in these turbulent times of immigration politics. I highly recommend this group to other presenters."

"Strings Music Festival had a wonderful residency with LP and the Vinyl in October 2022. The band visited two music classrooms and led improvisation workshops based in singing and instrumental playing with a truly inspirational effect for the students. The residency culminated in an evening jazz performance at Strings Pavilion that was engaging and delightful. Further - the entire band class that workshopped with LP and the Vinyl drove thirty minutes to attend the evening concert."
