Accompanied by her accordion and fiery band (clarinet, guitar, upright bass), Jessica Fichot draws from her multi-ethnic French/Chinese/American heritage and blends French chanson, Shanghai jazz, and international folk. Drawing from her experience as a children's songwriter and a composer of video game music, Jessica and her band engage audiences of all ages with activities like multilingual call-and-response songs, interactive video games music, and a fun musical instrument presentation.

- Learn (and sing) words in French, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish! 
- Learn about interactive music with a medley of Super Mario music!
- Sing and clap along to Jessica’s original song “Le Secret.”

"The History and Sounds of Shidaiqu 時代曲 (1930s jazz/folk fusion from Shanghai)”

​

Shidaiqu 時代曲, the fusion of Chinese folk and European jazz original in 1920s Shanghai, has a fascinating history - featuring stories of beautiful movie stars, exiled jazz musicians, WWII era ballrooms, and forbidden records. This workshop offers a brief history of the genre, intertwined with song performances.

Songwriting & Stories


Multilingual singer and songwriter Jessica Fichot introduces songwriting concepts such song structure and rhyme schemes, along with stories and techniques behind some of her own musical creations. The workshop is intertwined with live song performances - both classics and originals.

​

- Discuss the mystery of Simon & Garfunkel’s American classic ”The Sound of Silence.”
