In addition to the performance of moving spirituals, the show also includes works by living African American composers complete with a film component highlighting each composer. “Majesty of the Spiritual”  reveals the Spiritual as a continually evolving art form, as deeply rooted in the present as it is in the past. “Majesty of the Spiritual” is a testimony in music to the indomitable will that navigated an impossibly tragic, unforgettable past, and a vivid demonstration of musical lineage and poetic tradition, dynamic and powerfully alive today.

Royal Flush highlights the powerful riff-based drive of Count Basie’s “Old Testament” band, the elegance of Duke Ellington, the fire of Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw, and the energy of Chick Webb — capturing the spirit of a time when swing music filled dance halls and concert stages alike.

Cultural Crossroads: DvoÅ™ák in America is a live concert experience that explores the Black and Indigenous influences on DvoÅ™ák during his time in America. The program weaves original Native American melodies and moving African American Spirituals along with DvoÅ™ák’s most beloved chamber music. Short videos and imagery add to this powerful multimedia experience. Cultural Crossroads: DvoÅ™ák in America with its stellar and diverse cast of musicians is a catalyst for audience engagement as it entertains, educates, and inspires, drawn from the curiosity of a Czech composer a century ago.

In Harlem during the 1920s and 30s, rent parties were more than just entertainment — they were how people paid the bills, built community, and found joy in hard times. The music was the soundtrack of survival, social life, and celebration. That same spirit carried forward into the dance halls of the swing era, the jump blues of the 1940s, and later into funk and soul, where the groove only deepened.

American Journey

Backed by her all-star band, Caro says “I think
of my show as a trip that takes you for a visit to
Brazil for a bit while also sharing the musical
influences from my nearly 20 years in the U.S.”
The audience will hear original songs and new
interpretations of familiar favorites sung in
English and Portuguese such as “Girl From
Ipanema”, “Killing Me Softly”, and
“Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You”.
