Amazon New Releases in Vocal Jazz Chart #8: Heard And Seen

LP And The Vinyl's "Blues to Beatles to Bowie" showcases jazz-infused renditions of well-known hits! Renowned singer Leonard Patton teams up with the acclaimed Danny Green Trio to form LP And The Vinyl. Through Patton’s infectious charisma and the virtuosic interplay of pianist Danny Green, bassist Justin Grinnell, and drummer Julien Cantelm, the audience is transported throughout!

These four San Diego-based musicians have a purpose: to explore the art of song in their own unique way! The band’s wide array of influences includes everything from jazz, R&B, and rock, to 80’s and 90’s hits, Brazilian and classical music. Blending these sounds together, LP And The Vinyl has created a highly unique and personal approach to music-making that leaves its audiences craving more. The group’s repertoire draws from three separate areas: beautifully reimagined renditions of favorite hits by artists including Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, and David Bowie, fresh and funky explorations of jazz standards, and their own original songs. What lends consistency to their approach is the group’s ability to bring something new to the music every time. They play with no safety nets, and every emotion is on full display.

Since their formation in 2015, LP And The Vinyl has performed at notable festivals and venues nationwide including the Telluride Jazz Festival, the Vail Jazz Festival, St. George Jazz Festival, Laguna Festival of the Arts, Chandler Center for the Arts, and the Museum of Making Music. They also appeared at venues in Florida and Georgia including the Largo Center, Arts Garage, Miami-Dade Cultural Center, and the Madison Morgan Cultural Center, supported in part by a South Arts Jazz Road Tours grant.

LP And The Vinyl released their debut album,

Heard And Seen, in 2020 on Origin Records. The album features music by The Beatles, Quincy Jones, Tears for Fears, David Bowie, Oasis, as well as jazz standards and original songs including the poignant "Night Waltz" by Danny Green. Heard And Seen received extensive airplay worldwide, rave reviews, and it reached #8 on the Amazon New Releases in Vocal Jazz chart.

"From tight arrangements to free-wheeling improvisations, this telepathic trio evolves into an equally intercommunicating quartet with Leonard Patton. If there is a group worthy of special attention and reintroduction in jazz, it's LP And The Vinyl."

–Travis Rogers, Jr., The Sentinel

"Strings Music Festival had a wonderful residency with LP and the Vinyl in October 2022. The band visited two music classrooms and led improvisation workshops based in singing and instrumental playing with a truly inspirational effect for the students. The residency culminated in an evening jazz performance at Strings Pavilion that was engaging and delightful. Further - the entire band class that workshopped with LP and the Vinyl drove thirty minutes to attend the evening concert."
